Integrating plant chemistry into conventional chemistry

For several years now, the chemical industry has been facing major challenges associated, on one hand, with the depletion of fossil fuels (oil, gas and coal) from which it obtains most of its products and, on the other, to ever-tighter regulations which make the chemical industry one of the main sectors impacted by environmental issues.

In this context, an in-depth reflection on the future of the chemical industry has been carried out contemplating the move towards sustainable chemistry: plant chemistry.

The chemical industry in the context of sustainable development

Food, medicine, hygiene… even transport and heating. In modern society, the vast majority of the products we consume and/or use are linked to the chemical industry.

From this perspective, it would appear to be indispensable for our quality of life. However, in a context of sustainable development, marked by climate change and the depletion of fossil fuels, the public mood is moving towards reducing our dependence on the so-called traditional chemical industry.

Producing more and better while consuming and emitting less is the challenge facing the chemical industry today. It is in this spirit of limiting dependence on chemicals that the concept of “green chemistry” is emerging, in line with the principles of sustainable development.

Plant-based chemistry to meet environmental challenges

Global warming, scarcity of fossil fuels. Like other industries, the chemical sector is facing major global environmental challenges.

It is in this context that the notion of green chemistry has emerged. This refers to all the measures adopted by the sector to reduce their energy and environmental impacts. One of the key areas of green chemistry is plant-based chemistry, which uses plants (pine trees, eucalyptus, rice husk, etc.) for a variety of applications in the construction, automotive, cosmetics, detergent and packaging sectors.
Considered as renewable resources, using plants reduces dependence on fossil fuels and their carbon footprint.

Although the areas of application for plant-based chemistry are still little known today, they are nevertheless numerous: cosmetology, perfumes or even plastics. Even household products can be designed using plant-based raw materials.

All of these products, both efficient and economical, have a bright future!

Synerkem® technology to support the transition

In order to meet the ecological, health and regulatory challenges faced by manufacturers, the Groupe Berkem offers an innovative technology: the SYNERKEM® range.

The objective is to accelerate the transition of manufacturers while meeting the expectations of the sector, by reducing the content of biocidal or phytosanitary active substances in its formulas. All this, while guaranteeing total efficiency!

The applications of this technology are manifold. This is why Groupe Berkem can help you adapting its technology to your products, from the R&D stage to pilot production.
