Public hygiene: the cleaning sector

Hygiene
23.10.2023

Maintenance and cleaning of public areas is essential to ensure safety and limit the spread of disease. Beyond being important in protecting those at risk, such as children or the elderly, public health professionals help provide a better quality of life for all. Condominiums, professional offices, stores, hospitals, industrial sites, transportation, schools, etc. The fields of intervention of cleaning professionals are vast and their actions are essential to meet the challenges of public health.

The new challenges for manufacturers and cleaning professionals

Public health in the face of the pandemic

With the pandemic hitting hard, cleaning professionals have proven to be more critical than ever in the fight against the spread of the virus. Hygiene and cleanliness companies have helped to ensure healthy, safe and comfortable environments that have played an important role in keeping the entire economy going. Heavily impacted by the containment measures, some cleaning companies, such as those specializing in events, hotels and restaurants, have found themselves in difficulty. Those who provided maintenance and cleaning services in condominiums and offices had to work harder to ensure necessary hygiene conditions during the crisis and the recovery.

As a result, companies manufacturing hygiene and cleaning products had to react to the explosion in demand. The latter increased by +155% during the crisis, and manufacturers had to adapt and reorganize internally and externally in order to best meet demand while juggling with supply difficulties. The health crisis was the trigger for an increase in demand that seems to be persistent. Indeed, the demand remains less important than during the containment but is still doubled compared to the pre-crisis situation.

Public health faces growing demand for less harmful products

The entire sector is being disrupted by an increasing demand for “green” hygiene and cleaning products . At a time when concerns about the environment are accelerating, consumers’ purchasing decisions are moving towards products that are less harmful to themselves and to the planet. And this concern is also reflected in the companies through the implementation of CSR approaches that concern, among other things, the health and safety of employees and the environment. The FEP (Federation of cleaning companies) is providing a framework for these issues through the implementation of a ” Cleaning CSR” strategy, which consists of assisting companies in the cleaning sector in the definition and implementation of CSR actions.

Indeed, employees in the public hygiene sector are subjected to the handling of biocidal products all day long. It is therefore important, in order to prevent all risks, to train them in personal protective equipment. To meet this dual challenge, which correlates worker health and environmental impact of products, the alternative of co-formulants of plant origin appears to be an effective solution and adapted to the challenges of the profession.

SYNERKEM® la technologie adaptée aux enjeux de l’industrie de l’hygiène publique

SYNERKEM® is a technology developed by Groupe Berkem. As a result of several studies by the Research and Development department, it has been demonstrated that polyphenolic extracts have a synergistic activity when combined with active substances. In this way, this technology acts as an activity-boosting superactivator that considerably reduces the presence of biocides in formulations. Note that the performance of the product is not impacted at all and the original efficiency is maintained. SYNERKEM®’s offer is adapted to the products used in the public hygiene market. Compatible with the main biocides, it reduces the environmental impact of hygiene products by reducing their toxicity. SYNERKEM® technology is a solution perfectly adapted to the environmental challenges faced by professionals in the public hygiene sector.
